My Daughter’s High School Is Broken

I can’t even begin to tell you the problems at my daughter’s high school (Austin Independent School District). Over the last two years, almost every single outstanding teacher has left. It’s been like rats leaving the Titanic. That alone tells you that there are major issues. (The way my daughter’s best friend’s suicide was handled last October was fucking shameful. Not to mention this was the third suicide in two years at this particular school. You’d think they’d have procedures down, right?) (My daughter is, by the way, doing so much better, after a lot of therapy and antidepressants.) Well, my husband and I were on the way to see Tropic Thunder this afternoon (which really was quite funny) and I received an automated call from the school, since it’s the day before school starts for the semester. It was in Spanish. I don’t speak Spanish nor do I comprehend it. I waited for over five minutes for the English version to begin, cussing profusely. When the lady stopped speaking Spanish, the call was disconnected. I was so PISSED. I never received a call in English, so I have no idea what the message was about, only that it was regarding the first day of school and some procedures. I’m definitely going to make a call to the school tomorrow and ask them to put me on the English speaking calls from now on. I’ve never gotten one in Spanish before, so I don’t quite know how I got on that list. But, someone needs to pull their head out. I feel better now, having ranted. And don’t get me wrong, I know they need to have Spanish language messages. I’m all for that. Just don’t send them to me so I have to listen to it for five minutes, hoping to hear an English version, fer crying out loud! Bitching ceased, over and out.

  1. Thank you for commenting on my blog fellow Austinite. I love to meet new Austin bloggers. Thinking about starting a meet up, if you’d be interested?

  2. Tomorrow my son starts his Senior year too – he is all ready to done with everything and I can’t believe the years flew by so fast.

I sure hope the message wasn’t anything important!

  3. Zellmer, I’d love to get together with other blobbers in the area! Just say when and where!

fivehusbands, thanks for posting. I didn’t realize your son was the same age as my daughter. We have that in common, plus the same number of husbands. I think I hear the Twilight Zone theme song!
